Jul 29, 2015 Click Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client for Windows XP/Vista/7/8 and enter your UCLA/BOL Logon to initiate the application file download. In the Open File window, click Run. Application will be downloaded to your computer. The above path is incorrect here are the correct instructions from Cisco’s web site; The VPN Client uninstall script uninstalls any previous command-line or GUI. Enter the application's web address directly in your browser. A bookmarked UCLA Logon page won't work. This device is yours to use until the due date. Upon return, all information will be erased and the device will be prepared for another person.

Files cannot be recovered, so please use cloud storage whenever possible.

If you have a problem with a MiFi or Windows laptop with a label resembling FAC123, please contact the campus IT Support Center.

If you have a problem with a MacBook, ChromeBook or HP EliteBook (with a barcode that does not resemble FAC123), then submit a ticket for support to the Library Service Desk.

Power on and go through Setup Assistant. Set a username and password for logging onto the computer.

Additional settings are available in System Preferences.

macOS password must:

  • Be at least eight characters in length
  • Contain at least one letter and one number

We recommend signing in with a personal Apple ID in order to utilize the Mac App Store, but it is not required.
Some software, including Microsoft Office, is available through an application called Self Service, or install on your own.

Anti-virus, campus VPN, Citrix Workspace, and Zoom will be automatically installed.

If you experience a problem where the computer gets stuck on the Remote Management page, please follow the instructions on How to Restore a MacBook Computer to Factory Settings.

Power on and go through Setup Assistant, including setting a passcode.

Additional settings can be set in the Settings apps.

Passcode must:

  • Be more than 6 character
  • Not contain repeating, ascending, and descending character sequences

We recommend signing in with a personal Apple ID in order to utilize the App Store.
If you do not wish to use an Apple ID, use Self Service to install a number of free apps.

Zoom will be automatically installed.


Power on and go through Windows user set up.

If you wish to use a local account instead of a Microsoft account to log in, choose 'Domain Join instead' on the account creation screen.

Windows password must:

  • Not contain the user's account name or parts of the user's full name that exceed two consecutive characters
  • Be at least eight characters in length
  • Contain characters from three of the following four categories:
    • English uppercase characters (A through Z)
    • English lowercase characters (a through z)
    • Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
    • Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)

Antivirus, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Zoom, campus VPN, and Citrix Workspace are preinstalled. Install additional software on your own.


The Chromebook uses a managed guest account to log on, and will erase all locally stored data upon logout or shutdown. Therefore, we recommend you back up data often and only use sleep mode, which you may enter simply by closing the Chromebook lid.

CLICC Chromebooks come with Cisco AnyConnect (client for UCLA VPN), Citrix Workspace (client for CLICC Virtual Desktop), and Zoom installed. Install additional Chrome OS software on your own.

UCLA students can sign up for a Microsoft 365 account, which will provide them access to Office applications via a browser, here: Registering for Microsoft Office 365 Education (ProPlus).
